Description

Lutein and Zeaxanthin are carotenoids with reported anti-inflammatory properties that are often found in the tissues of the eye. Lutein is more prominent at the edges of the retina and in the rods of the eye, while zeaxanthin is found primarily in the center of the retina. Zeaxanthin is what gives the macular tissue in the eye its characteristic yellow color.

Lutein and zeaxanthin are known to improve or even prevent age-related macular disease, which is the leading cause of blindness and vision impairment. Because both lutein and zeaxanthin are xanthophylls (An oxygenated carotenoid that is not produced by the body), they must be consumed through food or supplements.
